IN MEMORIAN OF CARLOS MENDO, A GREAT JOURNALIST

2010-08-23_1953

A few years ago I wrote a very short post after reading a brilliant analysis of Carlos Mendo about the US elections.

Today I saw that my blog-meter started to get hundreds of visits linking to this post from Google.

2010-08-23_1943

I went to Google and I put just his name in…

And the explanation of so much traffic was there: Carlos Mendo died today and many people were looking for more information about this master of journalists.

Mendo was UPI director in Spain and director of EFE, working also for ABC and El Pais.

Carlos Soria and Esteban Morán were old friends of him.

I am sure that they are very sad.

Like many readers fans of such a great journalists.

He was a gentleman, a happy person with many friends and a terrific expert on US politics.

He was 77.

Rest in pace.

JUST LOOK TO HIS EYES… TIRED, ALONE, LOST, DONE

Antonio Heredia took a great picture.

And El Mundo of Madrid edited very well.

Just look at these eyes… and you will see a political dead body.

Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the Spanish socialist primer minister is a zoombie.

Tired.

Alone.

Lost.

Done.

Who’s next?

In another great picture of EFE, he seems ready to pray.

Well, it must be the last resource.

For us too.

Let’s pray he understands that he is part of the mess.

Not the solution.

But the problem.

NEW FIRST DAY SALES RECORD FOR APPLE: THE IPAD BEATS THE IPHONE NUMBERS

Getting ready for iPad

If you read the news dispatch from EFE, the Spanish news agency, the sales of the iPad were lower than the iPhone ones.

Well this reporter and his editors must live in an imaginary world.

The buzz of the new iPad has been bigger and louder than any other Apple product ever.

Ask Microsoft.

Ask Google.

Ask Nokia.

Ask Nintendo.

Ask Sony.

They know better than the lousy EFE report.

A better and more factual account comes here:

“Piper Jaffray Senior Research Analyst, Gene Munster, originally projected first day iPad sales to between 250 to 300,000.

After spending some time at the Apple store on Fifth Avenue in New York City on Saturday morning, that number was increaded to between 600 to 700,000.

These numbers are based on 730 customers being counted at that particular store, and compares to 350 at the same location for the iPhone 3G S launch, and 540 for the iPhone 3G.”
