Narrowing the Digital Divide: A Call to Action

To me, the true power and beauty of community-based organizing lies in a small group of individuals taking on a significant social problem and solving it for the common good. School Starts Up Again & So Does Tech and Social Change Baltimore

Tech and Social Change Baltimore took August off, but we're gearing up for our four remaining 2012 sessions. Our next meeting will be September 6 at 6:30 pm.  Fellow nonprofiteers and community builders Sharon Paley and Andrew Hazlett from the GBTC will join us to talk about Baltimore Weekly, a video broadcast where they talk with members of Baltimore's technology community about the interesting things taking place.

Social Media Surgery Event - Guatemala - August 23rd, 2012

The Guatemala NetSquared group was organized almost a year and a half ago.  Although we have been very active, with almost 50 events in the past (http://www.meetup.com/Guatemala-NetSquared-Meetup/), it was not until last  August 23rd that we were able to organize our first  "Social Media Surgery" activity.

Social Media Got You Down? Try a Surgery

I am thrilled to see the recent popularity of social media surgeries. While the surgeon/patient language can seem a bit top-down, these informal volunteer events are actually based on a collaborative, community learning model that blurs the lines between the social media “experts” and the practitioners who use or want to use the tools in their campaigns and work. Both are valuable in a social media surgery.

Netsquared Regional Event for Cameroon and Nigeria

The Netsquared Regional Conference for Cameroon and Nigeria is a multi stake holder event that will bring together actors from local Netsquared groups, Internet Society, civil society, diplomatic institutions, government and the tech world to articulate on issues related to the social web and nongovernmental diplomacy. Citizens from three neighboring countries including: Cameroon, Nigeria and Central African Republic, in a two day event will seek to resolve the following challenges:
