WHY THE APPLE iSLATE WILL CHANGE THE MOBILE INTERNET MEDIA MARKET

apple-table-ipad-itablet-macbook-touch9

If you need a few reasons to understand why the Apple iSlate is going to lead the new Mobile Internet Media Market Revolution, just read these four slides from a recent Morgan Stanley report:

1. MOBILE INTERNET IS THE NEXT BIG MEDIA TREND, SO MOBILE INTERNET DEVICES LIKE THE APPLE iSLATE WILL LEAD THE NEWS MEDIA CONSUMPTION

Tech Cycles las 10 Years

2. THE NEW MOBILE INTERNET DEVICES WILL BE MORE THAN JUST PHONES

New Copmputing Cycles

3. AND MOBILE PHONE USAGE IS MORE AND MORE ABOUT DATA, NOT VOICE.

Mobile Phone Usage is Data not Voice

4. MOBILE INTERNET IS RIGHT NOW THE FASTEST GROWING COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY EVER LAUNCHED

Mobile Internet Adoption

So, if you are in the newspaper business, let me suggest to read this report.

Why?

Because you need to include the Mobile Internet card if you want to play in the media games of the future.

It’s a key-strategic issue.

And that’s the reason that on January 27th, I will be in San Francisco when Apple launches the multimedia platform of the future.

Steve Jobs knows that this is going to be the most dramatic new product presentation of his life.

And this why yesterday Apple announced the acquisition of Quattro, a leading Mobile Advertising company.

NEW DIGITAL NARRATIVES: iTABLET WORK IN PROGRESS (BOOK PUBLISHERS/COURSESMART)

2010-01-05_2117

As The Wall Street Journal reports, this video created by Coursesmart, a joint venture of five textbook publishers, shows how students might use tablet-based textbooks. It is based on their own renderings, not specific applications being developed with Apple.

CourseSmart plans to show this video at the Consumer Electonics Show in Las Vegas this week.

Founded in 2007, CourseSmart delivers new ways to access textbooks for instructors and students.

WHAT THE APPLE iSLATE MEANS FOR NEWSPAPERS

2010-01-05_1344

People still expect miracles.

But newspapers cannot, a must not, expect any miracles from Cupertino.

What the Appple iSlate means for newspapers is this:

1. You need to embrace multimedia content production and multiplatform distribution.

2. You must be where, when and how your readers want you, or you will miss them.

3. You need to reach new readers, more audiences and unique communities if you want to stay necessary and relevant.

4. Your advertisers want more targeted messages.

5. You need a 24/7 not a 16/5 fully integrated multimedia newsroom operation.

6. You content output must be better, faster and more unique than ever.

7. Words matter but WebVideo rules.

8. Brilliant design presentation will be a must.

9. Typographical excellence will make the difference.

10. And it’s time to invest in quality content, digital creativity, multimedia talent, and innovation.

Welcome to the future!

GOOGLE VERSUS APPLE: THE TABLET’S WAR IS COMING

500x_500x_tablet-chrome

We don’t have the tablets, but the tablet’s war is coming.

Google and HTC versus the Appple iSlate.

Competition is always good.

But this is a war for a non-existing market!

And today Google is launching in San Francisco its Nexus One phone, presented as the “iPhone killer.”

KINDLE OR GOOGLE VERSUS APPLE? NO WAY!

Amazon and Google are great companies.

But Apple is a more innovative one.

In today’s Observer, John Naughton writes, again, a great column with some strong remarks:

First, forget about Kindle.

“While the Kindle is probably the best of the current eReader breed, it is actually a rather clunky and primitive device.”

Yes, it’s is a bluff.

Second, forget about Google gadgets:

“Google devices (like the Android phone) are excellent in their way, but seem haphazard and unfinished in comparison with the slickly-unified and predictable Apple device.”

Yes, Sir.

Third, stay with Apple:

“If Apple does produce an iPad/iSlate, things will suddenly become very interesting. At present, devices such as the Kindle are like the Daimler “horseless carriage” of 1886: the only difference is that the nag has been replaced by the engine. For electronic reading to become more than a way of carrying lots of texts around, eReaders have to become devices that add significant value to the reading experience. The only company that stands a chance of bringing that off is Apple.”

Wait and see the Apple iPad/Slate/Tablet/Guide!
